What's included
Water-smart landscaping in the Las Vegas Valley isn't just ripping out grass and dumping rock down — done right, it's a real design: a defined, usable open space (patio, turf, or gathering area) surrounded by planting beds of desert-adapted species, connected by clear paths, with no lawn crammed into narrow strips that are impossible to water efficiently.
Southern Nevada Water Authority's Water Smart Landscapes Rebate program pays cash back per square foot of grass converted to qualifying water-smart landscaping — but the rebate has real requirements (minimum plant coverage, no artificial turf counted as landscaping, specific drip irrigation rules). We design and build to meet those requirements from the start, not scramble to fix it after an inspection fails.
A lot of 'xeriscape' jobs are just gravel and a few cacti. We design an actual layout — defined beds, real plant density, shade trees positioned to cut cooling costs — so the yard looks intentional and holds up, not like the lawn was simply given up on.
How it works
Step by step, here's what actually happens on site:
- 1Assess the current yard layout and how the space actually gets used
- 2Design usable open space (patio, small turf area, or gathering space) sized appropriately — not scattered turf in odd corners
- 3Lay out planting beds, paths, and gathering areas around that open space
- 4Select zone 9a–9b desert-adapted plants for the beds
- 5Zone irrigation separately for any turf, beds, and drip areas to meet SNWA rebate requirements
- 6Build out the hardscape, planting, and irrigation to match the finished design

Will this qualify for the SNWA rebate?
We design to SNWA's current Water Smart Landscapes Rebate requirements, but the district makes the final call on any application — we'll flag anything in your specific yard that could affect qualification before we build.
Is this the same thing as xeriscaping?
They're related — water-smart landscape design is a structured approach to a usable, water-efficient yard, while 'xeriscaping' is the broader general term for drought-tolerant landscaping.
Do I have to remove all my lawn?
No — plenty of water-smart designs keep a reasonably sized, usable turf area; it's just sized intentionally and zoned on its own irrigation instead of blended in with everything else.
Are there other incentives besides the SNWA rebate?
Occasionally, yes — some cities layer additional incentives on top of SNWA's program. Availability changes, so we'd check current programs for your specific address.
